PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Clean & Safe

Clean & Safe services, listed below, comprise approximately 65% of the BID’s budget and are provided through a contract with MJM Management Group.

Steam Cleaning - All property owners received at least one sidewalk steam cleaning during November and December. Effective January 1, 2010 the steam cleaning schedule was increased to two cleanings per month. Steam cleaning takes place at night from Sunday through Thursday.

Community Service Ambassadors - Eight (8) CSA’s have been hired and are now visibly present in their red uniform jackets throughout the BID district to assist the public with information and direct them to destinations within the area. The Ambassadors work seven (7) days a week, M-F from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sat-Sun from 10 to 11 p.m., with occasional extended hours for special events in the district.

10B Police Officer – The first of two 10B Police Officers has been hired and is on patrol Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Officer Murray Daggs can be reached, when needed, by calling the dispatch center at 415.781.4456. The second officer will be hired when assessment funding is received from the City

Graffiti Removal and Other Maintenance Services – Eight (8) people have been hired to clean litter from the sidewalks throughout the BID seven (7) days a week from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Among their duties, staff will remove graffiti, as authorized by property owners.

In addition, the BID has expanded its services to include the following:

Marketing – To maintain Union Square’s standing as one of the City’s top visitor destinations by promoting the area and the unique mix of businesses located within the district

Public Affairs Advocacy – To ensure the economic vitality of the district by advocating for public policy and services instrumental to a healthy business environment and welcoming to all those who visit, work and live in San Francisco

Beautification – To develop new ideas and programs to distinguish the district and enhance the pedestrian experience in the area

Public Services & Safety – To assure the district receives its fair share of City services and to assess the degree of property owner satisfaction with the BID’s clean and safe services. To address public safety and security issues within the BID

June 2010 Report
June once again brought the Annual Pride Parade to the edge of the district, along with the huge boost to the economy from the many hundreds of thousands of attendees. The parade occurred without any major incidents, and, under the direction of our field supervisor, the
TAGGers worked in conjunction with DPW to clean and maintain the streets both during and after the event....
